Lullaby Lyrics ~ Somewhere Over the Rainbow

There's a sleep rebellion going on in this house so we're taking bedtime back to the old skool with some traditional lullabies.

When I was little I can remember my mum soothing me to sleep by singing lullabies. I forgot all about their gentle charm until I heard her sing this one to Harry just the other day.

What a wave of comforting nostalgia I felt. Perhaps it's just me and my association of them with my own childhood, but there is just something so beautiful about singing a lullaby to a baby or child to calm them and to help them drift off to sleep.

Because I feel to some degree that it may have gone out of style, a song sung by mum or dad swapped in favour of a YouTube 'Night Time Baby Songs' playlist(I know I've been there)I thought I would share with you the lyrics to my three favourite lullabies so you have them, should you wish to try them out.

Please feel free to check back in over the next few days for the others if you are interested.

Thank you mum for reminding me of the calming loveliness of a lullaby.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high,
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star,

And wake up where the clouds are far,
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
Away above the chimney tops,
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly,

Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh, why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly,Beyond the rainbow, why, oh, why can't I?

To listen to the melody for the song here's a link to Eva Cassidy's version.
